Dolores volleyball team stays hot

Lady Bears’ improve record to 12-3, look to Mancos

After winning all its matches during September, the Dolores High School volleyball team opened October with a road victory over Ridgway High School and a home victory over Creede High School.

Leading the way for the Lady Bears against Ridgway on Oct. 4 were sophomore Erin Brown, who had 12 kills, junior Sydney Smith, who had 10 kills, and senior Jordan Elder, who hammered down 10 kills.

Sophomore Kami Willbanks and Elder were both credited with two aces, and Smith and Brown each had 14 digs. Willbanks and freshman Carlie McClellan were each credited with 16 assists as Dolores won in straight sets, 25-18, 25-23, 25-18.

Pacing the Lady Bears offensively during a 25-11, 25-13, 25-12 victory over Creede on Oct. 5 was Elder, who had 11 kills, Brown, who had nine kills, and Smith, who had eight kills. Brown was credited with four aces and 13 digs, and junior Akira Edwards had a match-high 14 digs.

Willbanks had 18 assists and McClellan had 11 assists during the Lady Bears’ convincing victory, which improved the team’s record to 12-3 overall and 8-0 in the San Juan Basin League.

Next up for Dolores will be a road matchup against Mancos, on Oct. 15.
