A 32-year-old man wanted for allegedly violating a protection order led police on a chase Monday afternoon, but it wasn’t long before he was caught by authorities.

La Plata County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chris Burke said around noon Monday, a man identified as Hector Cibrian entered the La Plata County Courthouse for a scheduled court appearance.

There, deputies advised him he had a warrant for violating a protection order in a domestic violence case. Police said Cibrian then ran out the east exit of the courthouse.

Durango police and Sheriff’s Office deputies were alerted, and Cibrian was caught about 30 minutes later, Burke said, near the intersection of East Fifth Avenue and 10th Street.

Police said Cibrian told authorities he was injured climbing over a fence and he was cold. Police took him to Mercy Regional Medical Center before he was booked at the La Plata County Jail on the warrant and an additional obstruction charge.
