A freeze warning is in effect from midnight until 9 a.m. Saturday for much of Western Colorado, from Mancos and Cortez to Gateway, according to the National Weather Service.

Locations include Cortez, Mancos, Dove Creek, Dolores, Delta, Montrose, Nucla, Hotchkiss and Canyonlands National Park.

Temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-20s early Saturday morning. Subfreezing temperatures are likely to damage or kill sensitive early budding vegetation.

The cold and windy spell in Southwest Colorado is expected to taper off by Sunday, as high temperatures reach the 60s, overnight lows climb to the upper 30s, and winds back off to 5-10 mph.

Cold weather might return on Tuesday, the weather service said, with overnight lows around 25 degrees.
