Panthers track team places three in Top 5 at Farmington Invitational

M-CHS places three in Top 5

Competing against opponents from New Mexico and Colorado, the Montezuma-Cortez High School boys and girls track teams produced solid results at the Farmington Invitational on March 17.

Among the top finishers among the M-CHS girls was junior Morgan Short, who finished third in the long jump (14 feet, 11½ inches) and eighth in the 800-meter run (2:48.47). Hurdler Ashley Wood also enjoyed a solid day as the senior finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.02) and 300-meter hurdles (51.25).

Other Lady Panthers who cracked the Top 10 in an individual event included sophomore Abigayle Gray, who placed sixth in the 800-meter run (2:41.91), and senior Taylor Willbanks, who finished sixth in the shot put (31 feet) and 10th in the discus (77 feet, 7 inches).

The M-CHS boys were led by senior Sonny Boren, who utilized speed and stamina to finish fourth in the 400-meter dash (53.38). Senior Trey Yarbrough placed seventh in the 200-meter dash (24.26).

Sophomore Tyler Cutrone led the way for Panthers distance runners with a 10th-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:19.06), while sophomore Andrew Wood paced M-CHS in the jumping events with a fifth- place finish in the long jump (18 feet, 1 inch).

Next up for M-CHS will be the Chandler Rotary Invitational in Arizona on March 23.
