U.S. 160 between Bayfield, Pagosa reopens after rollover

Two men were injured in single-vehicle crash

A single-vehicle rollover closed U.S. Highway 160 east of Durango in both directions between Bayfield and Pagosa Springs for more than an hour Saturday morning.

The crash happened at mile marker 113 about 10:20 a.m., said Colorado State Patrol Capt. Adrian Driscoll.

Driscoll said the driver, identified as Charles Pausel, 33, suffered minor injuries. An unidentified male passenger was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center by ambulance with “serious bodily injury.”

Both men are from Phoenix, Driscoll said.

Pausel was traveling westbound in a white 2006 Ford van with a 30-foot trailer when he drove off the right side of the road, overcorrected and rolled onto the passenger side of the vehicle.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the crash, but speed was a factor, Driscoll said.

Driscoll said Pausel was cited for careless driving causing injury.

The road reopened about 11:50 a.m., Driscoll said.
