Over the last weekend in January, the Town of Rico and the Rico Trails Alliance hosted what we hope will become an annual event – the Rico Winter Carnival.
Carnival attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including snow biking, pond hockey, cross-country skiing, yoga, a bonfire, a chili potluck and bluegrass music.
The event was a success, and like any successful endeavor, it could not have happened without the help of many people. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the following people that made this event so much fun:
Thank you to the Town of Mountain Village, which loaned us not only their snow bike grooming equipment but employees to operate it.
Thank you to Boot Doctors, who brought up snow bikes for our bike tour so those of us who had never been on a snow bike had an opportunity to engage in this enjoyable activity.
Thank you to the Rico Fire Department, who helped us with supplies and firewood; to Telluride Brewing, who provided us with beer; to the Enterprise Bar and Grill, who brought in the bluegrass band, Porch Couch; to Allysia Klimasewiski, who offered a yoga class; and Joe Distefano, who taught a beginner ski lesson at the park.
Thank you to the Rico Trails Alliance and the Rico Parks employees and volunteers who helped get everything organized, and most of all, thank you to the visitors and citizens of Rico, without whose participation, the carnival would not have happened.
