Opening their season at the Piedra Vista Invitational in Farmington on March 10, several members of the Dolores High School girls and boys track teams posted Top 10 finishes in individual events.
Among the top finishers for the girls team was senior Sierra Schwartz, who opened her final season of high school track on a positive note by finishing fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.26) and 300-meter hurdles (56.90).
Also registering a pair of Top 10 finishes was freshman Sydney Smith, who kicked off her high school track career with ninth-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (14.06) and the high jump (4 feet, 4 inches).
Other top finishers for the girls team included Rebekah Carpenter, who placed 10th in the 300-meter hurdles (1:09.52). Sophomore Jordan Elder finished seventh in the long jump (15 feet, 2 inches), and sophomore Brenn Jeter placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles (19.13).
The Dolores boys were led by Phillip Huffman, who placed seventh in the 1600-meter run (5:02.03) and 10th in the 3200-meter run (11:38.87).
Members of both Bears teams will continue to build their conditioning at practice for the next three weeks before returning to competition at the Cedaredge Invitational on March 31.
