The National Weather Service has announced a winter weather advisory until noon Friday in Western Colorado, forecasting 4-8 inches of snow and gusting winds.
A second, stronger and colder storm was expected to move into the area Friday evening through Sunday morning, bringing snow to the mountains and higher valleys.
Wind gusts are expected to reach 45 mph, and blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, the weather service said.
Snow rates were expected to be greatest Thursday, impacting Thanksgiving holiday travelers.
Drivers should plan for slick roads, especially on mountain passes including Lizard Head, Red Mountain, Coal Bank and Molas passes.
In Montezuma County, there’s a 30-40 percent chance of snow showers Friday and Saturday, with high temperatures falling from the mid-40s on Friday into the upper 30s by Sunday.
Sunny skies are expected Sunday through Tuesday, with high temperatures rising again into the low 40s. Overnight lows will remain around 20 degrees.
