3:15 p.m.: A woman was arrested outside City Market, 508 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.
8:08 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 1200 block of Montelores Avenue on suspicion of two counts of third-degree assault after family members claimed she had attacked her mother and hit another woman who was trying to separate her from her mother.
9:16 p.m.: A man was arrested at Front Row Seat, 610 E. Main St., on suspicion of disturbing the peace after store employees claimed he was refusing to leave. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.
10:22 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 300 block of North Chestnut Street. A man claimed he had seen someone steal his mountain bike, valued at $100, out of his yard. The case remains under investigation.
Monday, July 31
1:19 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 500 block of East Montezuma Avenue on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge after a neighbor complained that she was talking loudly outside.
4:09 p.m.: A man and a woman were arrested in the 300 block of South Park Street on suspicion of possessing a Schedule II controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after witnesses said they believed they were living in a neighbor’s home without permission and stealing her belongings while she was at a nursing home. The woman was also arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a traffic offense.Jewelry and two bags of meth were found in the man’s pockets, and a syringe and a bag of meth were found in a bag belonging to the woman. One of the homeowner’s neighbors said she believed some tools and a fishing pole were missing from the house, but the homeowner’s son said he didn’t want to press theft charges.
Tuesday, Aug. 1
12 a.m.: A woman was arrested near Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge and on suspicion of trespassing and a child restraint violation. Her husband was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting. Store employees claimed the man had stolen three T-shirts, valued at $12.94 total. When the couple was pulled over as they left the parking lot, their three young children were reportedly standing in the back of their vehicle without seat belts.
3:45 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
10:29 a.m.: Police responded to a report of possible theft in the 1500 block of East Montezuma Avenue. A woman said a man had called her saying he needed help with money, and had told her to get a credit card at Walmart and put $300 on it. She said she had done so because he sounded like a friend of hers, but later realized it was probably a scam. The case remains open due to a lack of evidence or leads.
11:38 a.m.: A man was arrested at City Park, 802 E. Main St., on two warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.
12:02 p.m.: Police responded to a report of graffiti in the 300 block of North Chestnut Street. A woman reported someone had sprayed the words “7th Street Click” on her garage. Responding officers found the same words sprayed in red paint on several other properties in the area, including the Cortez Chiropractic building. The case remains under investigation.
5:41 p.m.: A man was arrested outside the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on suspicion of third-degree assault. Witnesses claimed he had hit and kicked another man repeatedly in an argument over money, giving him a bloody nose. The suspect was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication and because he claimed the other man had injured him in the face as well. Police reported he did not appear to have any serious injuries.
6:29 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 300 block of North Washington Street. A man claimed some property was missing from his vehicle, which was unlocked. The case is being investigated.
9:06 p.m.: Police responded to a report of criminal mischief in the 1800 block of Rolling Road. Homeowners reported someone had shot paint balls at their garage, leaving marks and dents that would cost about $600 to fix. The case remains under investigation.
9:26 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 20 block of South Elm Street on suspicion of disturbing the peace after police responded to a report he was walking around his apartment complex with a rifle. He was not armed when officers arrived, but they reported finding a loaded rifle in his nearby residence. He reportedly told officers he was carrying the rifle to show his neighbors “they cannot mess with (him).”
9:43 p.m.: Police responded to the emergency room at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, for a report of an animal bite. A woman claimed a puppy that looked like a German shepherd had scratched and bit her on the arms while she was sitting on her porch in the 600 block of South Chestnut Street. She said the dog ran away after her mother hit it with a cane, but she saw no collar or tags on it. The case is being investigated.
11:45 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 600 block of South Washington Street. A man said his vehicle registration and a bottle of his wife’s prescription pills had been taken from their unlocked vehicle. The registration was found on Madison Street and returned. The case is being investigated.
