Montezuma-Cortez school district shares meeting dates for proposed elementary reorganization

Montezuma-Cortez School District Re-1 is hosting two parent meetings, one on Tuesday, April 29 and the other on Monday, May 5, to discuss the potential elementary reorganization.
The district is hoping to garner feedback from parents and the community

Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1 is inviting parents and community members to discuss a proposed reorganization of two of its elementary schools, shifting from two kindergarten through fifth-grade schools to one that would serve kindergarten through second grade and another serving third through fifth grade.

The district will hold two information-gathering sessions to engage the community in the conversation. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mesa Elementary School gym, 703 W. Seventh St. The second meeting is Monday, May 5, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kemper Elementary School gym, 620 E. Montezuma St., Cortez.

If approved by the Board of Education this year, the change would take effect for the 2026-27 school year.
