Let’s really fix our forests

There is an urgent need to protect communities from the growing threat of catastrophic wildfires. However, The Fix Our Forests Act (H.R. 471) supported by Rep. Jeff Hurd is not the best solution.

If this bill becomes law, it would weaken critical science-based management practices for maintaining forest health. More than 85 environmental groups oppose this bill. The bill aims to undermine core environmental protection laws such as The National Environmental Policy Act and The Endangered Species Act.

This bill would leave forests at risk from reckless logging projects that could actually increase the risk of wildfires. This bill seeks to prevent citizens, including scientists and experts, from holding federal agencies accountable.

The House of Representatives, with Jeff Hurd's support, has already approved this mistaken bill. The Senate has not voted on it yet. Please contact Sens. Bennet and Hickenlooper and urge them to vote 'No.’ We deserve legislation that will actually help fix our forests not make the situation worse.
