The Bobcats improve to 4-2 in a doubleheader sweep

Ignacio improved its record in dominant fashion, defeating San Juan Basin League rivals Dolores in a doubleheader on Saturday at the Bears field. The Bobcats won the first game 19-1 and the second 10-3.

Ignacio cruised to an easy 19-1 victory in the first game on 15 hits. The Bobcats’ Joseph Atencio led the ambush, going 3-5 with three runs and two RBIs. Ambrose Valdez also had a standout performance, finishing 3-5 with two RBIs.

Ignacio scored in every inning, with a huge 11-run seventh inning to cap the blowout win.

For Dolores, Waylon Kiddoo was the bright spot at the plate, going 2-2 with a run driven in while Gus Vaughn started on the mound for Dolores, giving up six runs over four innings.

The second game saw Ignacio again in control, winning 10-3 and Gabe Archuleta took over as he went 4-for-4, securing two runs and three hits. Alongside him, Valdez continued his streak, going 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs to help secure the lead early in the first inning as the Bobcats led 5-2.

Defensively, William Mendoza-Lechuga and Sonny Flores sported perfect fielding percentages which reflected the Bobcats’ one committed error throughout the entire game.

Pitching was another key area where Ignacio excelled. Despite only needing five innings, Archuleta threw four solid innings, allowing three runs on five hits with nine strikeouts.

Despite their efforts to break the silence, Dolores ultimately lost to Ignacio 10-3.
