With apologies, ‘And then they came for me’

With apologies to Martin Niemöller’s famous poem:

First, they came for the illegal immigrants, and I did not speak out – because I was native born.

Then they came for the Palestinian protesters because they were deemed to be terrorists, and I did not speak out – because I wasn’t a Palestinian.

Then they came for the liberals, because they were “the enemy of the people,” and I did not speak out – because I was afraid.

Then they came for me, a gun-toting MAGA, because the dictator was afraid of insurrection, and there was no one left to speak for me.

Beware the slippery slope of free-speech suppression. Are you next?
