M-CHS cross-country teams race in Alamosa

Senior Caisey Duran led the Panthers in Alamosa, placing 29th overall.

Competing in one of the most competitive meets on their schedule at Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa on Sept. 9, several members of the Montezuma-Cortez High School boys and girls cross-country teams ran well.

On the boys’ side, the Panthers were led by freshman John Whyte, who finished 72nd overall with a time of 18:30.36. Whyte was followed closely by teammate Will Brown, who finished 74th overall with a time of 18:31.10. Other finishers for the boys team included Trenton Bagge, who finished in 91st place (18:55.04), and Josh Hughes, who placed 198th overall (22:35.48).

On the girls’ side, the Panthers were led by senior Caisey Duran, who placed 29th overall (21:02.42) in the 219-runner field. Teammate Ridley Dennison placed 90th (23:07.89), Trinity Meyers placed 132nd (24:58.67), Lynda LaPaz finished 138th (25:12.68), Regina Schuster finished 154th (26:03.52), and Maya LaMunyon placed 175th (26:51.15).

As a team, the M-CHS girls placed 15th out of 17 qualifying teams. The Durango High School girls finished first overall.
