On Jan. 27, Southwest Health System announced the addition of Dr. Eve Bruneau to its “esteemed team of healthcare professionals.”
“Dr. Bruneau brings a wealth of experience and expertise in general surgery, making her a valuable asset to our community,” the press release said.
Her background – in education and professional experience – is “diverse.”
She underwent a general surgery residency at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey. There, she was a chief resident and medical student liaison.
Bruneau also has a degree in medical doctor of osteopathy from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and a bachelor’s in environmental biology.
The “DO” following her name stands for Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, which, in effect, is holistic, comprehensive care.
“DOs are trained to look beyond your symptoms to understand how lifestyle and environmental factors impact your well-being,” according to the American Osteopathic Association’s website.
That training is coupled with “special training in the musculoskeletal system.” The combined knowledge allows them to “offer patients the most comprehensive care available in health care today,” the AOA website said.
In her career, which spans more than a decade, Bruneau has worn many hats.
She’s been a general surgeon at the Northern Navajo Medical Center, a teaching assistant in neurology and neuroanatomy, a medical illustrator and an anatomy dissector.
Bruneau “has also contributed to the medical community through her publications and presentations. She’s a member of both the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, and is board-certified with the latter.
“Her dedication to patient care and her extensive experience will greatly benefit our community,” said hospital CEO Joe Theine. “We look forward to the positive impact she will have on our patients and our health care system.”
