Zamias Lang was identified Thursday as the 7-year-old boy who was shot and killed in Towaoc on Tuesday. The investigation into his death is still ongoing, according to an announcement Wednesday by Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Chairman Manuel Heart.

His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 18, and the proceeds of the GoFundMe are going to help cover funeral expenses and support the family.

“Your contribution will help alleviate some of the financial burdens, allowing the family to focus on grieving, healing and seeking justice,” said GoFundMe organizer Inandre Dale.

As of Thursday evening, the GoFundMe had raised $13,290.

“Our community was shaken to its core when Zamias Lang, a bright and loving 7-year-old, was taken from us far too soon,” Dale said. “He fell victim to senseless gun violence, leaving behind family, friends and a community who loved him dearly.”

Dale asked that those who are unable to donate share the GoFundMe on social media and support Lang’s family through thoughts and prayers.

“We're grateful for your kindness, generosity and support during this incredibly difficult time,” Dale said. “Rest in peace, Zamias. Your life mattered, and your memory will never be forgotten.”
