Veryl Goodnight to be featured in Durango Cowboy parade

Mancos painter and sculptor Veryl Goodnight will be featured at the Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering parade at 10 a.m. Oct. 1.

Goodnight will be inducted to the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas next month.

The parade begins at the Durango train depot and continues down Main Avenue to 12th Street. Goodnight will walk with her burro and sled dogs, who have been featured in some of her paintings and sculptures.

A selection of Goodnight’s work is on display at Mesteno Gallery through October.

The Grand Marshals for the parade are ranchers Don and Kellie Gosney.

Local singer-songwriter Tim Sullivan will be riding and performing in the Wells Fargo wagon during the parade.

The Cowboy Poetry Gathering takes place from Sept 29 to Oct. 2. American Idol finalist and Colorado native Jeneve Rose Mitchell will perform a concert at the Henry Strater Theater on Oct. 2 at 3 p.m.
