After adding soccer to his repertoire of sports early in his high school athletics career, Montezuma-Cortez senior Samson Lein earned all-state recognition to cap a a career as the final line of defense for the Panthers soccer team.
Lein’s 3A honorable mention joins a list of honored Panthers in recent seasons.
He anchored the Panthers defense while playing every minute in goal, averaging nearly 11 saves per game to rank among the state leaders in the category.
The multisport athlete collected a shutout in his final of three seasons as the starting goalkeeper for M-CHS as the Panthers collected a trio of victories this fall. For a young Panthers squad, Lein provided stability while keeping M-CHS in plenty of tight matches throughout the season.
The honor, which is Lein’s first all-state selection, comes as a selection from the Colorado High School Soccer Coaches Association.
