A boon for tourist season?

Outdoor Sports Rentals opens in Dolores, and two restaurants are on the way
Stan Folsom and Steve Anderson are now doing water sport rentals and ATV rentals at Fourth and Railroad in Dolores.

Outdoor recreation rentals, a revived gas station, a boat storage and repair shop, and Mexican food restaurants are all coming to Dolores.

Last year, entrepreneur Stan Folsom brought the floating marina back to McPhee reservoir under the name Doc’s Outdoor Sports Rentals. It’s expected to open May 1, and will have rental slips, fuel, a store, ice, snacks, fishing and boating gear.

Now Folsom has opened a flagship storefront and gas station at 341 Railroad Ave. in Dolores.

“It’s like a visitors center for Docs Marina and McPhee reservoir,” he says.

The Dolores store is expected to be open April 15 and offers rentals for kayaks, canoes, pontoon boats, fishing boats, water-skiing boats, paddle boards, side-by-sides and ATV’s. There will be a small convenience store and various recreation gear for sale, and the gas pumps will be turned back on.

Meanwhile on top of the hill across from the school bus yard, Folsom has leased a 5,000-square-foot building and storage facility. He is offering indoor and outdoor boat storage, light boat repair, an upholstery shop and wood furniture shop.

More grand plans are in the works, and he’s looking for business partners.

“I have room and equipment for photography and framing studio, yoga classes, martial arts, a gym, and office space,” he said. “The old archery facility is still here, so that is an opportunity if somebody wants to form a club.”

Town officials report that the Montezuma Mexican restaurant plans to open soon at the former Hollywood Bar location on Railroad Avenue. Also, a Chavelos Mexican restaurant is planned for the old Naked Moose restaurant location.
