I’ve lived in Montezuma County for 31 years and I love it here, but one thing that bothers me is the unreliable internet/Wi-Fi service. Where I live on Lebanon Road, we still rely on a buried phone line and the only (?) phone carrier in our area, CenturyLink, to connect to the internet. Why can’t we have fiber optics or other reliable and affordable options at every residence in our county?
I’ve been to poorer countries and some of them have better internet service than we do. Having reliable internet service will lessen our geographic isolation and help us better connect with the rest of Colorado, the U.S., and the world. Moreover, it is essential to learning, e-commerce and other opportunities that will give us, especially our youths, more incentive to live and work here.
I wish our county commissioners and other stakeholders do something about it.
