Just weeks after being suspected in a high-speed chase with police that left a vehicle totaled and in flames, Duece Martinez, 18, has been arrested in Archuleta County. He appeared in the 22nd Judicial District via Webex on Thursday.

After being arrested in Archuleta County on Sept. 27, Martinez failed to appear at Montezuma County Combined Courts, and faced an arrest warrant. After the court realized Martinez was being held in Archuleta, the warrant was canceled.

According to the Archuleta County’s website, Martinez was arrested on the charge of third-degree assault.

During Martinez’s hearing on Thursday, Judge Raymond Satter said that Martinez has nine open cases in Montezuma County. Martinez’s attorney, Annalise Hodges, told Satter that they are working on a “global agreement” for all of his cases.

Martinez is being held on a $25,000 bond.

Satter set Martinez’s felony hearing for later on Thursday at 1 p.m., and his nine misdemeanors for Thursday, Oct. 10 at 9 a.m.

Martinez has become a familiar face in the 22nd Judicial District this year, starting with an alleged domestic abuse case in June. Not long after, Martinez was arrested for alleged DUI. He has also been arrested since those cases for violating his protection order with Lillian Uptain, 19, who has had an active warrant for her arrest since Aug. 21.
