The Mancos Brewing Co. officially awarded two local nonprofits money from its seventh annual Summer Brewfest last month.
The event brought in $14,400.
Mancos Valley Resources and Mancos FoodShare, the two nonprofits awarded funds, split the money down the middle the afternoon of Sept. 23.
Although the event wasn’t as crowded in years past, the amount they fundraised was on par with years past, said Kathy Hands, the owner of Mancos Brewing Co.
“It was really a great event,” Hands recounted.
Kim Campbell, the vice president of Mancos Valley Resources, highlighted the nonprofit’s appreciation for the money to bolster its ongoing projects, and the “amazing partnership” it has with the brewery.
Since Mancos Valley Resources supports 12 projects in the area, including the Mancos Valley Farmers’ Market and Mancos Trails Group, they receive Brewfest money each year.
Hands chooses the other recipient, which changes from year to year.
“Kathy and DeWayne are just so generous to be putting this on,” said Dana Sprayberry, with Mancos Valley Resources. “We’re so grateful to be a recipient and just to participate in general.”
“Thank you,” added Nicole Halladay, a co-director of Mancos FoodShare, one of the groups awarded money.
Brewer DeWayne Jackson emphasized that Mancos and its community is at the heart of Brewfest. That’s why they bring in local brewers, local bands, local people.
“It’s focused on Mancos Valley life,” Jackson said.
