Reach Out Music Festival brings Christian music to Cortez

Easton Toles entertains spectators at the Reach Out Music Festival in City Park in 2014.

The Reach Out Music Festival this weekend will bring a mixture of Christian music artists to Cortez City Park.

“We’re just trying to bring something positive to the community,” said event organizer Tim Robinson.

The music begins Saturday at 2 p.m. and includes artists such as Avenue Lighthouse, Mervin Budram, Ryan Stevenson and KJ-52, among others.

This is the fifth year for the festival, Robinson said. The schedule includes a variety of artists playing rock, hip-hop and metal music, he said. It’s the first year the festival will include a second stage, which will focus on acoustic music, Robinson said.

Boise, Idaho-based Stevenson was nominated for a Grammy Award last year, and has had several songs on the Billboard Christian music charts, Robinson said.

On Sunday, the festival will travel to Espanola, New Mexico, for the inaugural performance there. Robinson said festival personnel partnered with people in Espanola to bring something positive to that community.

Tickets are still available for Saturday’s show and are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. The show is outdoors, so spectators are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.

“We’re bringing positive music in and giving families the opportunity to enjoy it,” Robinson said.
