Derick and Shay Hurst were driving back home to Mancos from a softball tournament in Vernal, Utah on Sunday when they hit a motor home head on outside of Moab. Derick, Shay and their 3-month-old daughter Skylar were killed in the crash.
Two of their sons, Jamie and Dean, were injured in the collision. Jamie was taken to a hospital and has since been released with minor injuries, according to a Facebook post from Shay’s mother, Kristi Garlinghouse.
Dean was flown to Salt Lake City, where he is being treated for his injuries by a “wonderful trauma team.” According to Garlinghouse, Dean has multiple fractures in both hands, as well as bilateral fractures in his wrists, compression fractures in his T5 and T7 vertebrae, a broken clavicle, lacerations to his face, a concussion, bruised lungs, injuries to his mouth and more.
Those who wish to volunteer or donate to the auction can contact Devonne Kingery at 970-749-4366. The GoFundMe page was set up after the accident accumulated more than $64,000.
