The Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office is preparing an arrest warrant for the suspect in three stabbings outside Eagle Claw Liquors south of Cortez on July 3, said Sheriff Steve Nowlin.
The three victims were attacked about 9:30 p.m. after witnessing an “altercation” outside Eagle Claw Liquors and Gifts, at 4285 U.S. Highway 160/491. They drove themselves to Southwest Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for stab wounds.
The 42-year-old victim was flown to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque and was in stable condition in the intensive care unit
Nowlin told The Journal that the victim was stabbed “three or four times.”
The other victims, a 43-year-old and a 17-year-old, were released the next day. Both were stabbed once, but Nowlin said the 43-year-old had a “pretty deep wound, which was life threatening at the time.”
“These were all serious bodily injury wounds received by a knife from the attacker,” Nowlin said.
Two of the victims are related, and one is a friend, Nowlin said.
The names of the victims and the suspect won’t be released until the suspect is in the custody.
Nowlin said the suspect was being sought for first-degree assault and second-degree attempted murder.
