‘I walk Main, think of tourist visiting’

Recently, there have been numerous letters with opinions on the lack of parking in the general downtown Durango area.

I spend quite a bit of time in Durango, and agree with most about less and less parking. As one letter writer said, the idea and discussions to improve the situation have been going on for years, and nothing ever happens.

Main Avenue had spaces eliminated with bump-outs and now a new plan would make additional changes. Someone mentioned it’s been good as is, and has worked for years, so leave it as is.

I agree.

When I walk Main, I think of a tourist visiting and wanting to take photos with many historic buildings and such. But bump-outs sure take away the possibility of those great photos. Kind of laughed when someone said that Main looks a mess, like a large neighborhood yard sale.

Maybe folks relocating here want it to be like where they came from with less parking, pedestrian friendly, blocked streets, etc. Like the newbies say, this is how we did it where we used to live. Well, we all have an answer for that.

If you want to shop where there’s plenty of parking, come to Farmington. We are constructing a Bridge to Nowhere, and have silly round-a-bouts too, so you will feel right at home.

Congratulations on your now Bridge to Somewhere.

Guess I’m another one who can be added to the list of opinions.
