Montezuma-Cortez alumna caps career at Colorado School of Mines by matching best finish at NCAA DII Track and Field Championships

Just like she did at Montezuma-Cortez, Aryelle Wright rewrote record books at Colorado School of Mines.

In her final season with the Orediggers, the former Panther added one more item to her lengthy list of athletic achievements, taking the bronze medal in the 800 meters at the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Emporia, Kansas on May 25.

Wright closed out her career in the 800 finals with a time of two minute and 9.24 seconds, just four-tenths of a second shy of a national title.

Wright received First-Team All-American status for a fourth straight time, including both indoor and outdoor seasons. Her third-place finish matched her career best finish on the national stage, tying her performance at the indoor national meet earlier this winter.

Wright spent much of her collegiate career rewriting the Orediggers’ record books in the 800-meter run, consistently resetting her own record.

And now she walks away with her personal best of 2:07.08 as the program’s high-water mark. She also earned Second-Team All-American status from her indoor seasons in 2021 and 2022 and her outdoor campaign in 2022.

During her time at Montezuma-Cortez, Wright won the state title in the 400 meters during the 2018 3A state championships. She was one of the most dominant sprinters in the Panthers’ classification before shifting to middle distance for her collegiate career.
