‘Ridiculous how fast some people drive’

The gentleman sure hit the nail on the head in this past Sunday’s letter section about the speeding issues between Purgatory and Durango.

Unfortunately, it’s exactly the same issues to the south on U.S. Highway 550 between Aztec and Durango. It’s totally ridiculous how fast some people drive and for what reason, who knows?

I’ve experienced this many times and watch my rearview mirror all the time to avoid any approaching surprises. Sometimes you actually have to get out of the way for some of the stunts drivers perform, at times most likely well over 100 mph.

Just recently, two passed me in the Cedar Hill area running 20 feet apart, bumper to bumper, Nascar style and probably well more than 100 mph. I saw them coming and pulled over onto the shoulder and about two miles farther to the south, the state police were shooting radar. Guess once they get out of sight of the police, it’s time to put the hammer down.

It comes down to some of us having more respect for people’s lives than others.

Thanks to Colorado and New Mexico police for doing what they can to help save lives.
