I was pleased and honored to be recognized by the volunteers and board members for 25 years at the Cortez Cultural Center.
Buford Weuft suggested and almost insisted that I become involved when I retired. We began collecting volunteers (my friends and several retired teachers).
It went from there and grew. The finest people in the Cortez area came forward to welcome and assist people from all over the world. Volunteers not only assist visitors. They clean, re-arrange, assist the staff with many chores, water flowers, sweep the steps and monitor the restrooms. I won’t elaborate but there have been some major challenges in that respect.
There are so many memories we have all shared.
We suggest the visitors walk around downtown to see the unique shops we have. In turn, the merchants tell visitors about us.
If you are new to Cortez or just not acquainted with the Cortez Cultural Center, visit us at 25 N. Market St. for art exhibits, historical information and unique gift selections.
My family and I would like to thank everyone involved in putting on such a wonderful event. I’ll see you at the Cortez Cultural Center.
