The second annual Mancos Turkey Shoot is Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Simmons gravel pit, 39145 Highway 160, just west of the town of Mancos.
The event is sponsored by the Mancos Valley Historical Society, and proceeds will go toward raising funds for a new historical museum.
Only 12-gauge shotguns can be used. Shotgun shells are provided and the fee is $10 per shot with nine shooters competing in each round. All shooters are welcome but minors must be accompanied by an adult.
The top prize for each round of shooters is a free turkey for P&D Grocery. Breakfast rolls and other homemade items will be offered, as well as coffee and hot chocolate.
The historical society anticipates that the new museum may open with a year. It will be located in the former Mancos Fire District building in Mancos.
The Dolores State Bank is the corporate sponsor for the event.
